As you've probably all heard from the mainstream media, there was a helium leak from the cooling system for the LHC
superconducting dipole magnets, that will result in several months down time to do repairs.
It's an unfortunate setback, but not entirely surprising: with a machine of this complexity, there are bound to be a
few snags at the beginning. As Lyn Evans, the leader of the LHC project, has put it, "the LHC is its own prototype".
The really unfortunate thing is that it takes so long to warm up the magnets to do repairs and cool them down again.
Despite this setback, LHC@home will keep chugging along regardless, to help ensure the machine runs as smoothly as
possible once the repairs are done, and to start doing research for future upgrades of the machine, planned in a few
years' time. So your contribution is still very much valued!

Neasan2008-09-29: PrimeGrid - A new server is in PrimeGrid's future! The Back to the Future Challenge has ended. Over 8000 Woodall WU's were completed by 204 teams and 1108 individuals. Congratulations to BOINCstats as the top team and lunarcom as the top individual. Also, thanks to the help of the anonymous donor as well as the hundreds of users who participated in the Challenge, we now have the funds to purchase a new server. For more stats and information, please see this forum post. 2008-09-28: BOINCstats - Team profiles All new on BOINCstats/BAM!: team profiles. Team founders will find a new item in their BAM! menu to create a profile for their team. This profile is visible for everyone and can be used to blatantly promote the team. It offers the option of joining the visitor to the team, lists all members (who have BAM! accounts) and visitors can send messages.
All in all this is a perfect way to promote teams, so team founders: why wait? Create the profile now!
